Mealworms - Garlic & Herbs

Add to Wishlist
Fall for the surprising crunch of our edible mealworms, finely seasoned with Garlic & Herbs !

Mealworm is an edible insect specie, also known as the Tenebrio Molitor. The taste is sophisticated, close to almonds and cashew nuts. Eating insects in France is not yet a common practice, that’s the reason why we decided to present our insects with seasonings, as it brings a crunchy and tasty Appetizer crisp.

Cooked in our Melun facilities at one hour from Paris, we use high quality spices and ingredients to excite your taste buds. Guaranteed without artificial aromates, nor conservatives and prepared with our « French touch » recipes, you can safely discover entomophagy (the practice of eating mealworms and other insects), with our garlic and herbs Mealworms.

The Mealworm has a subtile taste, close to almonds and cashew nuts. We empowered the taste experience of this funny insect by creating a not-to-be-missed recipe of Garlic & Herbs. This will make your taste buds dance for the Apéritif !

Edible Mealworms (also known as mealworm or Tenebrio Molitor) can perfectly and easily fit (or replace) nuts, raisins or salted biscuits during your next Appetizer. These edible worms can even be a substitute for chocolate bits in pastries, for the more creative ones ! In the making of salty pies, they can easily replace ham cubes. We can also decide to fry and eat them instead of bacon bits. However, to start, why don’t we grab a grub for the next Appetizer ?

If by any chance, you decide to start your own insect rearing for human consumption, you should definitely start with edible mealworms.

Mealworms are insects following the same development as butterflies, which means that larvaes don’t look like adults and occur a complete metamorphosis of their body. As a matter of fact, once adults, mealworms become small beetles. This stage of development is called cocoons for butterflies and nymphs for beetles. Edible mealworm is ready-to-eat before this cocoon stage when still at the larval stage. If you start your own insects rearing, you will be able to watch all the life cycle of these funny edible mealworms. You won’t need much time and care, it’s really simple and ludic !

For the last couple of years, public awareness on entomophagy is increasing. Indeed, this trend is becoming more and more common with manufactured products’s arrival in Europe which can be bought in physical stores. There is more, with JIMINI’S, mealworms are not only a culinary curiosity for adventurers lacking thrills ! It is now a true and ready-to-eat appetizer condiment.

Nowadays, entomophagy can benefit from the support of world-famous institutions (FAO, OMS etc…) and gain more and more Western countries. In Belgium, you can find tapenades and pastas with mealworms whereas many companies develop insects flour and protein bars in the US and Canada.

Even if eating mealworms isn’t mainstream in France, entomophagy’s evolution is far from the TV reality shows. Don’t forget : appetite comes with eating !

How to store my insects once the box is open?
If you haven’t eaten your entire JIMINI’S box you can store your edible insects in an airtight container.

Your JIMINI’S edible insects box is open, what should you do? Here are some saving tips for you:

It was the first time you had eaten edible insects and you didn’t eat them all at once… or, generously, you decided to keep some grasshoppers for a snack with some friends tomorrow… or you’ve seen to big and you’ve opened many boxes at once… Well, say no more, you haven’t eaten your entire box and you’re asking yourself how to store your insects without them being any less crispy!

Well then, after 4 years of studies on the storing conditions of grasshoppers, 12 patent applications and a test realised upon a 6552 people panel, we found THE solution for you: a little airtight plastic box, also called a Tupper****.

In order to store my insects without any trouble, I only need to put them in the box and to close it up carefully!

Thus, your edible insects will be stored protected from the ambient air and humidity, which will keep them crispy and will enable you to serve them for a next snack (until one week after you opened it!) as long as they were stored to the right temperature and protected from the light.

How is it possible? You don’t own a Tupper****?

That’s terrible, but fortunately, we have a plan B: the airtight bag or the freezing bag. Once again, it will protect your edible insects from humidity and the ambient air.

Well played!

You see, it’s pretty easy to store your edible insects!

However, all these saving tips exposed, between you and me, I honestly wonder: who doesn’t finish its delicious JIMINI’S edible insects box?!
